Cooke Escapes Suspension for Savard Hit

As a repeat offender, the Penguins' Matt Cooke was considered a likely target for discipline for his blindside, shoulder-to-head hit Sunday that likely ended Bruin Marc Savard's season. Precedent was on Cooke's side this time, but such a hit could be punished by suspension next season if a new rule proposed by NHL GMs is adopted.

When the Penguins parted ways for the Olympic break, they spoke of a need to establish their team identity down the stretch. Four games later, the message the Penguins are sending is simple – on any given night, they can find a way to win, and they’ve done it with contributions from the entire lineup.

    Pittsburgh honored Olympians from both the Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday night, and the home team turned in an effort that saw them getting back to their style of play.
