Minnesota Wild General Manager and President announced today that they have acquired Robbie Earl from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Ryan Hamilton.
Wild Assistant General Manager Tom Lynn said “Robbie adds elements of speed and energy that will strengthen our prospect base and improve team speed and attack in Houston.”
Robbie Earl has 2 goal and 8 assists in 36 games with the Marlies this year, Toronto’s AHL affiliate. Earl was originally the Maple Leafs’ fourth choice and selected 187th overall in the 2004 Entry Draft. Robbie stands at an even 6 feet and weighs in at 195 lbs. and hails from the windy city, Chicago, Illinois.
Earl made his NHL debut with the Leafs last season notching one assist in nine games. In his three seasons at the University of Wisconsin he tallied 121 points in 125 games and was named the MVP of the 2006 NCAA Championship Tournament helping the Badgers to a win over Boston College in the championship game.
With Marian Gaborik out are the Wild looking for a speedster in Robbie Earl or are they building up trade bait for a trade before the deadline? Time will only tell.
