DURHAM, N.H.– Former UNH player and Hockey East Player of the Year Paul Thompson has signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins according to sources close with Thompson.
Thompson, a native from Derry, New Hampshire spent the last four years at the University of New Hampshire, putting up 112 points over his tenure there. This year, he tied BC’s Cam Atkinson in total points (52) in Hockey East, as well as taking sole ownership of power play goals (12) and game winning goals (7).
Named the Hockey East Player of the Year, Thompson played on a dynamic first line for the Wildcats with seniors Phil DeSimone and Mike Sislo. That line combined for 141 points this season. Also, adding to his resume, Thompson was named a Hobey Baker finalist this season.
Thompson’s last game as a Wildcat was Sunday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H., where the Wildcats lost to Notre Dame 2-1 in the Northeast Regional final.
