Mooseheads Are QMJHL Champions
For the first time in their 19 year history the Halifax Mooseheads are the President’s Cup champions.
They won with a 5-1 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and took the series 4-1 on Friday night.
A couple of hometown heroes were involved in the scoring as Cole Harbour, NS natives Stephen MacAulay and Nathan MacKinnon led the way with three goals between them with MacAulay getting two and MacKinnon one. Stegan Fournier and Jonathan Drouin had the other two goals; while Valentin Zykov scored for the Drakkar.
Following the game Drouin was presented with the Guy Lafleur Trophy as playoff MVP for his 35 points in 17 games.
The Mooseheads began the series with Baie-Comeau at home with a 4-0 shutout on Friday, May 3rd as Trey Lewis, Konrad Abeltshauser, Ryan Falkenham, and Fournier were the goal scorers.
Halifax took a 2-0 lead in games with a 4-3 win on Saturday thanks to goals from Abeltshauser, Fournier, MacAulay, and Matthew Boudreau; while Zykov, Carl Gelinas, and Petr Straka scored for Baie-Comeau.
The Mooseheads suffered their first loss of the postseason on Tuesday with a 3-1 loss when the series switched to Baie-Comeau. Gelinas, Zykov, and Gabryel Pacquin-Boudreau scored for Baie-Comeau; while Andrew Ryan was the lone Mooseheads’ goal scorer.
Halifax put Baie-Comeau on the brink of elimination with a 7-4 win on Wednesday thanks to two goals from Martin Frk and singles from Lewis, Ryan, Abeltshauser, MacKinnon, and Drouin. Gelinas, Straka, Paquin-Boudreau, and Samuel Noreau scored for Baie-Comeau.
The Halifax Mooseheads will play their next game next Saturday night when they take on the Saskatoon Blades in their first game at the 2013 Memorial Cup in Saskatoon, SK.
QMJHL Releases Final Central Scouting List
On Monday the QMJHL unveiled the final Central Scouting List for the QMJHL Draft which will take place at the Georges-Vezina Arena in Chicoutimi on June 28th.
15 year old forward Nicolas Roy who plays for Amos in the Quebec major midget AAA league is the top ranked player for the draft this year.

Lemieux Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Baie-Comeau’s Simon Lemieux is the CHL Goalie of the Week for the week ending April 28th.
He made 29 saves in the 2-1 win over Blainville-Boisbriand on Friday, April 26th.
