QMJHL Weekly: April 15th, 2013

Halifax, Baie-Comeau, Blainville-Boisbriand, and Rouyn-Noranda Reach Semi Finals

Halifax reached the semi-finals with another four game sweep this time over Gatineau.

On Tuesday Stefan Fournier scored twice; while Darcy Ashley and Matthew Boudreau had singles as the Mooseheads doubled the Olympiques 4-2.

Emile Poirier scored both goals for Gatineau. Fournier added the hat trick; while Konrad Abeltshauser and Jonathan Drouin had singles in the 5-3 win and series sweep on Wednesday. Mikael Langlois, Simon Tardif-Richard, and Jordan Kennedy scored for Gatineau.

Baie-Comeau also won their series with Victoriaville in four straight starting with a 3-0 shutout on Monday thanks to goals from Samuel Noreau, Jeremy Gregoire, and Petr Straka. Carl Gelinas and Maxim Lamarche scored in the 2-1 win on Wednesday. William Cochrane scored the lone goal for the Tigres.

Blainville-Boisbriand swept Val-d’Or in four games.

Xavier Ouellette scored twice; and Yasin Cisse, Cedric Paquette, and Stefan Matteau Jr had singles in the 5-0 shutout on Tuesday. Philippe Sanchez and Tommy Giroux scored for the Armada; while Brandon Hynes lit the lamp post for the Foreurs as Blainville-Boisbriand took the series with a 2-1 win on Wednesday.

Rouyn-Noranda needed five games to dispose of Quebec.

The Huskies got goals from Dillon Fournier, Jean-Sebastien Dea, Marcus Power, Sven Andrighetto, and Liam O’Brien in their 5-2 win on Tuesday. Ryan Culkin and Kurt Etchegary replied for the Remparts. Power scored the overtime winner 2:49 into the first overtime on Wednesday; while Gabriel Desjardins scored a pair; and Dea and O’Brien had singles in the 5-4 Huskies’ win. Anthony Duclair had two goals; while Mikhail Grigorenko and Nick Sorensen had singles for the Remparts. Nikita Kucherov had the hat trick; while Dea had a pair; and Mathieu Brisebois had a single as the Huskies advanced to the quarters with a 6-1 win on Friday. Grigorenko had the lone Remparts’ goal.

Mooseheads’ Zachary Fucale Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

On Tuesday the Canadian Hockey League announced that Halifax Mooseheads’ goalie Zachary Fucale is the CHL Goalie of the Week for the week ending April 8th.

Fucale went 2-0-0 with a 0.00 GAA and 1.000 SAV% in two games against Gatineau. He made 20 saves in the 7-0 win on Friday and added 13 more in the 6-0 shutout on Saturday. He was the third star on Friday and the second star on Saturday.

Baie-Comeau will face Blainville-Boisbriand starting on Friday in Baie-Comeau; while Rouyn-Noranda travels to Halifax to take on the Mooseheads starting Saturday
