The Anaheim Ducks defeated the San Jose Sharks 6-2 in a possible playoff preview matchup Wednesday evening at Honda Center.
The Ducks were led by right wing Corey Perry who continues his torrid second half pace and push for the Hart Trophy. Perry netted a hat trick and added an assist; he now has 42 points (22 G, 20 A) in 27 games since the All-Star break. Perry has all but guaranteed himself the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy with his 50th goal of the season. The Ducks took a commanding 6-1 lead during the second period with three consecutive power play goals by forwards Perry, Teemu Selanne, and Jason Blake.
Ray Emery stopped 22 of 23 shots before leaving the game with a minor injury. Dan Ellis relieved Emery and stopped 14 of 15 shots for the victory.
With the victory, Anaheim improved their record to 45-30-5 (95 points) and currently sit 7th in the Western Conference. The Ducks will wrap up the regular season with a home-and-home series with the crosstown rival Los Angeles Kings. San Jose’s record dropped to 47-24-9 (103 points) but have already clinched the Pacific Division Title for the fourth consecutive season.
