The visiting Ottawa Senators defeated the NY Islanders 4-1 in their final meeting of the season, and the Islanders final home game.
Ottawa Goaltender Craig Anderson saw 46-shots on the night, saving 45, and allowing just one-goal. His teammate, Senators Captain Jason Spezza provided the offense they needed to win, scoring two-goals and assisting on Matt Kassian’s empty-net-goal in the final seconds of the Third period.
The NY Islanders team were extremely competitive throughout the game, throwing shots on net, screening Anderson all game and out-hitting the Senators 27-8. Goaltender Anders Nilsson looked strong for much of the game, and came up with a few spectacular saves, making 28-saves on 31-shots. Frans Nielsen scored the lone Islander goal, a backhand shot under a diving Craig Anderson at 0.22 seconds into the Third Period. At that point Nielsen’s goal tied the game 1-1, before the Senators broke out, scoring three-unanswered goals to close out the game.
