The Detroit Red Wings came to the Nassau Coliseum and totally dominated the New York Islanders in a 5-0 shut out.
The game added more pain to the Islanders’ season as they lost their fifth game in a row, and the chant from the fans of “fire Cappy” was heard in the stands.
Detroit’s Daniel Alfredsson and Darren Helm scored twice and Gustav Nyqist scored as shorthanded goal at 16:49 of the second period.
Red Wings Goaltender Jimmy Howard recorded his second shutout of this season and the 18th of his career.
“Tonight we made decisions with the puck that weren’t very good,” Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. “You just can’t do that against this team or any team.”
The Islanders have now fallen to 8-15-3 as they sit at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division.
