Nazem Kadri scored the first hat trick of his NHL career at the Nassau Coliseum Thursday night to help the Maple Leafs beat the Islanders 5-4 in overtime.
The Islanders came out and would open the scoring in this one at 3:34 of the first period as Josh Bailey scored on the first shot by the Islanders. Nazem Kadri would then score at 8:31 of the first period to tie the game at 1 and at the end on the first period the game was tied 1-1.
Lubomir Visnovsky scored his first of the season at the 6:22 mark of the second period for the Islander to put them up 2-1 but then Nazem Kadri would score his second goal at 8:55 to tie it once again. It wasn’t until 10:25 of the second when James van Riemsdyk broke the tie with his 12th goal and then Kadri would score his second goal at 14:12 of the second period to put Toronto up 4-2 at the end on 2 preiods.
Andrew MacDonald opened the scoring in the third at the 5:31 mark to get the Islanders within one goal to tie it, then at the 10:08 mark Kyle Okposo would score his second goal of the season to tie the game and at the end of regulation the score was tied 4-4.
In Overtime action Michael Grabner hit the post to almost win it but then Dion Phaneuf would score his fourth goal of the season to win it in over time by a final score of 5-4.
Oddly enough, aside from a penalty shot in the first, there were no other infractions called all game, so neither team had any power play time…..
