San Jose Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi made 24 saves on Sunday evening and forced a deciding Game Seven in their Western Conference Semifinals with the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. The Sharks took advantage of the Kings parade to the penalty box in the first period as Captain Joe Thornton netted a 5-on-3 power play goal to give the soldout HP Pavilion something to cheer about.
After taking a costly penalty in Game Five, Sharks forward T.J. Galliardi redeemed himself with a wrist shot that beat Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick high glove side and clinched the 2-1 victory in the second period for the Sharks. Kings captain Dustin Brown scored the lone goal for the Kings in the second period.
With four out of the six games in the series being decided by one goal, it’s only fitting that this series conclude with a Game Seven in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening.
