Tuesday afternoon the NY Islanders got their first taste of outdoor NHL hockey at Yankee Stadium, in preparation for Wednesday night’s game against their cross-town rival, the NY Rangers in the Bronx.
The Islanders who have had a heated rivalry with the Rangers since their inception in 1972, play host to the “Blue Shirts” at Yankee Stadium. So far this season, the Islanders have the edge with two wins and one loss in three contests against their rivals.
Following a difficult loss to the Boston Bruins on Monday night, Islanders Coach Jack Capuano had the team working hard on the Coors Light Stadium Series ice, utilizing various drills throughout their practice to prepare the players for the outdoor ice, the frigid temperatures and the fast paced Rangers.
The team worked hard for the hour practice following their team photo, before having a family skate on the Yankee Stadium Ice.
The final Coors Light Stadium Series game is set to begin at 7:30 pm and will air on both NBCSN and TSN.
