The Islanders came out to a good start scoring 2 goals in the first period Sunday night but could not hold on for the win as the Huricanes defeat them 4-2.
Both Matt Moulson and John Tavares had scored goals in the first to get the Islanders off to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. The Islanders played well and Kevin Poulin looked real good in net.
The second period went scoreless until with 1:32 left in the period, Islanders Matt Martin took a penalty for interference and Carolina broke the ice scoring a power play goal. It took them less than a minute to score again to send the Islanders into the dressing room at the end of 2 periods with a 2-2- tie.
The Hurricanes completely took any momentum that the Islanders had going away and with Bobby Sanguinetti scoring the go ahead goal 10:17 of the third it was all but over for the islanders. Alexander Semin added an empty-net goal with 29 seconds to go to seal it up for the Hurricanes with a final score or 4-2.
