The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Calgary Flames 5-4 in overtime on Sunday evening. The Ducks got their second overtime victory in as many nights on Corey Perry’s second goal of the game. The Ducks dominated the play early and chased Flames netminder Miikka Kiprusoff after he surrendered three goals in the first six minutes of play. The Flames battled back and tied the game in the second period on Tom Kostopoulos’s second goal of the game. Jarome Iginla put the Flames ahead with a power play goal midway through the third period. But Flames forward Rene Bourque took a costly interference penalty late in the third period; giving Anaheim the power play which allowed Teemu Selanne to tie the game at four.
Bobby Ryan was awarded his second penalty shot in overtime this season but his attempt was stopped by Henrik Karlsson just seconds before Perry’s game-winning goal.
With the overtime victory, Anaheim improved their record to 40-27-5 (85 points) and jumped into the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference. Calgary’s record moves to 37-21-10 (84 points) and remain one point behind both Anaheim and Dallas.
