WILKES BARRE TWP.- The Penguins opened the first round of the 2012 Calder Cup Playoffs with a solid performance to take 3-1 win over the number 5 seed Hershey Bears. The Penguins got solid goaltending from Brad Thiessen, who stopped 19 of 20 shots for his first post season win. Colin McDonald scored twice, and Cal O’Reilly scored his first goal as a Penguin. Mike Carman ended Thiessen’s shutout bid with 1:52 left in the game, tipping Kevin Marshall’s point shot inside the far post. Dany Sabourin made 26 saves for Hershey.
