The Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Hershey Bears 4-3 at the Mohegan Sun Arena Friday night, in a battle for first place in the American Hockey League’s East Division.
Hershey had a commanding lead heading into the third period with a 3-0 score. But the Penguins rallied by scoring three goals and chased starting Hershey goalie Braden Holtby by the time the first five minutes of the third were over.
The Penguins scored on a power play first by Jason Williams and less then two minutes later, Brandon DeFazio put a routine wrist shot past Holtby’s glove for their second goal. Robert Bortuzzo banged home a Holtby rebound from the face off circle to tie the score. Paul Thompson netted the game winner with about five minutes remaining in the game.
Hershey went on the power play with little over a minute left in the game and pulled Dany Sabourin for a two man advantage but Brad Thiessen held his ground in the Penguins’ net for the win.
