Milan Lucic hosted his annual Rock N’ Jock softball game Wednesday night in LeLacheur Park. The event benefited the NMTW Community Credit Union’s community partners through the Celebrities for Charity Foundation.
It was a packed house to watch the Jocks: Stanley Cup champion Milan Lucic along with fellow Bruins players and athletes take on the Rocks: members of the local media.
Bruins players who attended this year’s game included Shawn Thornton, Patrice Bergeron, Daniel Paille, Dennis Seidenberg, Nathan Horton, and goaltender Tuukka Rask.
There was not an empty seat to be found in the stands by the start of the game and fans erupted in cheers every time a Bruins player got up to bat. When a montage of the playoffs played on the jumbotron in left field, Bruins fans in LeLacheur Park gave the Bruins a standing ovation; a ‘thank you’ for bringing the Cup back to Boston.
“It shows how big of a hockey town this place has become,” said Milan Lucic during the game, “obviously they’re excited and pumped about what we did last year and looking forward to next year. Its great that everyone is showing their support.”
As for how the game turned out, it looked as though the Rocks would defeat the Jocks in the last few inning, because Milan Lucic and his teammates were down by three runs. However, in typical Boston fashion, the Jocks were able to put together a final inning surge – led by Lucic – that tied up the game and sent it into extra innings. In the eighth and final inning, a missed catch in right field brought Patrice Bergeron home for the game winning run. The Jocks won by a final score of 6-5.
Win or lose, for Lucic and everyone attending the game, it was all about supporting a good cause.
“We had a great turnout this year which is great, everyone’s having a lot of fun. The best thing about it is we’re raising money for a good cause; that was our main goal today and we achieved that.”
