On Wednesday night Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman set off his own fireworks by signing highly sought after defenseman Matt Carle after Zach Parise and Ryan Suter both signed with the Minnesota Wild earlier in the day.
Carle, 27, will return to the Tampa Bay Lightning for his second stint on a six-year deal worth $33 million.
Back in 2008, the Lightning traded Dan Boyle and Brad Lukowich to the San Jose Sharks in a deal that sent Carle to Tampa Bay along with Ty Wishart and a couple draft picks. During that time here, he appeared in 12 games, recorded a goal, an assist and was a plus one rating.
The last three seasons, Carle displayed his talent with the Philadelphia Flyers, appearing in 244 games, tallied 11 goals, 102 assists, had a plus 53 rating, 75 penalties in minutes, and 458 blocked shots.
“I’m excited to be back.” Carle Said. “It was a hard decision. The organization is going in the right direction, and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
