Jacques Martin Hired in Montreal

The Montreal Canadiens will hold a news conference this afternoon at 2pm et when the club will introduce Jacques Martin as their new head coach.

Montreal will be Martin’s fourth NHL stop as head coach after working for the St. Louis Blues and Ottawa Senators and holding the head coach and general manager positions for the Florida Panthers.

Team 990 in Montreal originally reported this story on Monday morning and are also currently reporting that the Habs will hire Mario Tremblay as an Assistant. Former Wild head coach Jacques LeMaire is also believed to be coming into the fold in an unknown capacity.

Don Lever who moved up from the head coach position in Hamilton to become an Assistant in Montreal when Bob Gainey took over after firing Guy Carbonneau is also still in the mix as an assistant or associate coach.

Let the speculation begin now that the Habs will lure UFA-to-be Jay Bouwmeester, the much coveted blueliner who played for Martin in Florida.
