The New York Islanders announced the signing of defenseman Travis
Hamonic to a three-year, entry level contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Isles selected
Hamonic, 19, in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The 6’2″, 215 pound native of St. Malo, Manitoba, split this past season between the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL and scored 11 goals and 44 points in 41 games. He added 4 goals and 11 points in 15 postseason games as he helped the Wheat Kings reach the Memorial Cup Finals. Hamonic also represented Canada at the 2010 World Junior Championships where he scored a goal and added 2 assists in six games.
