The sinking Abbotsford Heat dropped their second straight game in a 2-0 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs on March 5th. The loss makes it eight out of their last nine games, and the Heat have now lost seven straight on the road.
The Bulldogs caught a lucky break in the second period when Joey Tenute beat Heat goalkeeper Leland Irving on a goal.
“On a play like that, the goalie is going to be thinking that I am going to make the pass and he might be cheating a little. I kind of went to my backhand and I kinda just put it upstairs,” Tenute said of the goal.
There wasn’t an immediate celebration on the goal as the goal was initially waved off the by the referee before the goal was reviewed upstairs on instant replay.
“No doubt in my mind, I saw it, the whole bench saw it, and I think the referee was maybe the only one that didn’t,” Tenute added.
The game was close and was a one goal game until the final moments when the Bulldogs added a late empty netter by Louis Leblanc. The Heat out shot the Bulldogs 27-23 and Dustin Tokarski recorded his second straight shut out victory.
The Heat and Bulldogs have appeared to head in different directions the last few weeks, the Heat have now dropped 12 of 18 hockey games while the Bulldogs have won 8 of 12.
The Heat have fallen to 6th place in the Western Conference. The Heat will be back in Hamilton on March 7th for two games against the Bulldogs.
