Game Four Plus/Minus B’s/Flyers

The Boston Bruins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in game four of the EasternConference Semis to move on to The Eastern Conference Finals against Tampa Bay. Boston gets the sweep over the Flyers, locking up their series in four games which they were unable to do last season. How did the Bruins get here?

Number Five- Johnny Boychuk

Boychuk had three goals in the regular season. He has two in the playoffs now. The Bruins and Flyers were deadlocked 1-1 into the third period when Boychuk’s rocket of a shot whizzed past Flyers netminder Sergei Bobrovsky. Boychuk and the rest of the defense have needed to step up with extra minutes with Adam McQuaid out and last night Boychuk responded more than anyone.

Number Four- Tim Thomas

Has Thomas been here for every one of these little recaps? I think so.

He has performed unbelievably in these playoffs as he did in the regular season. A shoe-in for the Vezina, without Thomas the Bruins would not have gotten this sweep. Philadelphia dominated the second period and Thomas just stopped everything to allow the Bruins the opportunity to take the lead.

Number Three- Milan Lucic

If you are a Bruins fan,it’s  about time.

Milan Lucic stepped up big with two goals last night including the first of the game. After a Nathan Horton shot was stuffed by Bobrovsky, Lucic was sitting at the doorstep to punch it in. The Flyers had a late rush in the second half to tie the game but that Lucic goal seemed to give the Bruins all the energy they needed.

Number Two- Nathan Horton

He is officially clutch. With two overtime goals these playoffs Horton has proven that all those years stuck in Sunrise have been a waste. What he did last night was not a goal but it was just as good. When the Bruins were sitting back with a lead in their own end, Horton stepped up to intercept a pass. After that he made a fantastic pass to Lucic for his second goal of the game and to seal the win.

Number One- 2010

They can say whatever they want but the year 2010 was in the back of every Bruins’ mind. They were in the same position as they were this time last year and the result of last night could have happened just as easily. They knew they blew a great chance last year and were not about to do it again this year.

Boston will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in the next round. Date is TBA.
