Five Observations: B’s Top Habs in Shootout

The Boston Bruins got a nice win on Wednesday night against the Montreal Canadiens, 4-3 in a shootout. The Bruins led 3-1 in the third period but allowed the Habs to come back. Here are my five observations.

Number Five- Brad Marchand

One big downer of this game was the hit that Brad Marchand had on Alexei Emelin at the very end of the second period. The hit, in which Marchand bent himself over to have a low hit, was all too familiar for Marchand, who was suspended on the same type of hit against Vancouver last month. Watch for a suspension coming.

Number Four- Defense

Another downer. Sorry about that, but I am not completely happy with the way the Bruins utilize their defensemen on the offense. ¬†Joe Corvo struggled, holding onto the puck at the end of regulation when he didn’t know the time on the clock. Zdeno Chara also had a tough turnover leading to the third Montreal goal.

Number Three- Tyler Seguin

Seguin is a really talented player. I am just getting that out of the way now because it had to be said. His shot on the shootout tonight, which turned out to be the winning shootout goal, was an incredible snipe. He also played a great game during regulation.

Number Two- Tim Thomas

Thomas made 26 saves on 29 Montreal shots, and he is now 5-0 in the shootout. He made just eight saves in the third period, and one of the goals was off of a terrible Chara turn over. Maybe it was good for Thomas to get out of Boston, where the media has kind of been on his case.

Number One- First Road Trip Win

The Bruins will be embarking on a six game road trip, and tonight had to play in one of the toughest buildings in the NHL. They came out with a victory, and have to play in Winnipeg on Friday night, also no easy task. The Bruins almost blew this game, but for them to pick up a victory was something that they needed.

The Bruins will be in Winnipeg on Friday to take on the Jets.
