Five Observations: Bruins Struck by Lightning

Things just keep getting worse for the Boston Bruins, as they lost their third game in a row Tuesday night, this one a 6-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Here are my five observations as things continue to look bleak.

Number Five- Greg Zanon

The whole defense has been bad, but Greg Zanon is starting to look like a failed acquisition. After trading for the former Minnesota Wild defensemen, Zanon has struggled, turning the puck over and standing there as pucks hit the net.

Number Four- Marty Turco

The word fail has come up again. And this time it is used to describe Marty Turco. Turco struggled early, the defense provided no help, and he was pulled for the game. Turco is here only to give Thomas rest, and so far he hasn’t been able to do that.

Number Three- Tim Thomas

Tim Thomas really needs a break. He has now played 10 games in a row, and that is exactly what the Bruins did not want. Struggling now, the Bruins might have to rely on Thomas, which is bad news.

Number Two- Defense

The defense hasn’t shown up for about three weeks now. Zanon and Mike Mottau have been no help, while Joe Corvo has struggled all season. Even key cogs like Adam McQuaid and Johnny Boychuk have not played well.

Number One- Bad

I couldn’t think of a good title for this one. But what’s going on is bad. The Bruins are now just two points ahead of the Senators and have just one game in hand.
