Five Observations: Bruins Rout Panthers

The Boston Bruins have won six straight games following their victory over the Florida Panthers on Friday by a score of 8-0. The Bruins now head into the Christmas break at the top of the conference again. Here are my five observations.

Number Five- Offense

The Bruins offense is the best in the Eastern Conference right now, with 119 goals on the season and a plus-53 in their goal differential. Last season, even though they won the Stanley Cup, at times their offense was questioned without an “elite” scorer. This season, although there are not any Crosbys on this roster, the Bruins offense is even better.

Number Four- Power Play

The Bruins’ power play is not the worst in the history of ever now. Last season, the Bruins won the Cup with the worst power play to ever win a championship. Like the offense above, not the case in 2011-2012. They are now are now at a respectable 18.3 percent on the PP, and they have 22 goals in 120 power play opportunities.

Number Three- Tuukka Rask

Tuukka Rask now has his second straight shut out, this time holding the Panthers scoreless on 30 shots. Rask right now is one of the hottest goalies in the league. The only problem is that the other Bruins goalie happens to be Tim Thomas. Right now, a goalie controversy is good.

Number Two- Brad Marchand

Brad Marchand tonight got his first career hat trick, and now leads the Bruins with 15 goals on the season. Marchand was in the dog house just recently, when Claude Julien pronounced him as “Bad Brat” and as “Good Brat”. Tonight, the Good Brat showed up.

Number One- Winning

The Bruins are on a stretch right now unlike any other in the NHL, and they can have literally no complaints heading into the Christmas break. The Bruins have everything going right, and on Wednesday night they return in Arizona as they face the Phoenix Coyotes.
