The Toronto Marlies announced today, in conjunction with the Toronto Maple Leafs, that Dallas Eakins has been named head coach of the Marlies. Eakins replaces Greg Gilbert, whose contract wasn’t renewed following the 2008-09 season.
“Dallas has over 20 years of professional hockey experience as a player, coach and most recently in the front office,” said Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke. “He understands what it takes to make the transition from the AHL level to the National Hockey League and he will enhance the development of our prospects.”
Eakins retired from professional hockey following the 2004 season, and served as an assistant coach under Paul Maurice with the Marlies and the Maple Leafs before moving to his role as director of player development.
