Devils-Flyers Outlook

The New Jersey Devils will try once again to win their first preseason game tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

The Flyers defeated the Devils, 4-3, in a shootout on September 21. Mike Richards scored the deciding goal, beating rookie goaltender Mike McKenna in the fourth round of the shootout.

Tonight’s the fourth preseason game, so I expect to see a few things from the Devils tonight:

1. Brian Rolston – The left-winger will get the opportunity to play with Travis Zajac and Ilya Kovalchuk tonight. It’s a chance for him to step out of the shadows a bit. I’d expect to see Rolston play better tonight, and maybe we’ll see him in the plus column tonight.

2. Jacob Josefson – The Devils’ rookie played well in the first meeting against Philadelphia, but he’s been battling a bruised foot since. Tonight will be his first game action since the injury, and hopefully he can build off of his performance from the first game. Josefson seems poised to take the third-line center role, and a solid performance tonight should help him cement that role.

3. Adam Mair and Marcus Nilson – Both veterans are still playing for a contract, whether with the Devils or not. Both players bring energy to the table, and they’ve been pleasantly surprising. Tonight will be another opportunity for both players to prove why they belong in the red and black.
