Devils bounce back to even series

The New Jersey Devils received goals from five different players and had to hold off the Philadelphia Flyers for a 5-3 victory in Game Two of their best-of-seven first round playoff series. The series comes back to Philadelphia for Game’s Three and Four.

The Devils outshot the Flyers 33-29 and both teams scored once on the power play.

One thing the Devils did that the Flyers did not do was score shorthanded.

Zach Parise went in on a breakaway after a nice lead pass from Patrik Elias and beat Brian Boucher for the 1-0 lead. Aaron Asham and Claude Giroux would put the Flyers ahead 2-1 at 9:33 and 15:30 of the first period but it would be the last lead the Flyers would get the rest of the night.

The Devils bounced back with two goals of their own thanks to Colin White and Andy Greene’s power play goal. Chris Pronger scored his second of the playoffs with 1:12 left in the second period to tie the game at the end of two periods.

This time former Flyers first round pick Dainius Zubrus would be the hero of the night with only 4:04 to go in the game. Ilya Kovalchuk would close out the scoring by adding an empty net goal to tie the series at 1-1.

Game Three is Sunday at 6:00 pm at the Wachovia Center in South Philly.
