Radio Show Preview: 11/15/08

November 14, 2008 @ 11:04 AM ET

Are you ready to GET INSIDE HOCKEY? Well then tune in this Saturday for the Inside Hockey Radio Show, 2-4 PM on “NHL Home Ice” XM 204 and Sirius 208, and 1120 AM WBNW in Boston. You can also listen online at moneymattersradio.net. Join host James Murphy as he takes you inside the NHL, AHL, NCAA, CHL, and all things hockey!

Co-host Todd Carroll won’t be in studio this week as he is on the road driving cross-country and returning from the 2008 World Junior A Challenge in Camrose, Alberta. But as he always does he will be joining us to go “Toe to Toe” and touch on the latest hot topics around the NHL.

Also calling into the show will be Oilers President Kevin Lowe. A six-time Stanley Cup winner we’ll ask Lowe what he and his team need to do to make it back to the finals as they did in 2006 and can they ever get back to the glory days of his playing career in Edmonton? The Oilers have a very talented and young core in forwards Dustin Penner, Ales Hemsky, Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano, as well as defenseman Denis Grebeshkov and Tom Gilbert. Can this core ever reach the dynasty status of Lowe’s teams he played with? We’ll ask him those questions and more in what promises to be a great segment.

We’re also glad to welcome Capitals forward Tyler Sloan onto the show this week. Sloan spent seven years in the minors before finally getting to the NHL this season and his journey is one of inspiration. You can read about this story of heart and perseverance in a great feature by the Globe and Mail’s Alan Maki.

Lyle Richardson, AKA “Spector”, and the founder of spectorshockey.net, will come on to discuss the latest rumors around the NHL, including the ones I touched on recently in Murphy’s Law.

Is Brian Burke becoming the Leafs’ next GM? Is Jason Spezza on his way out in Ottawa? Where will Brendan Shanahan and Mats Sundin end up? We’ll tackle those hot rumors and more with the man that posts and does a great job analyzing every rumor in the NHL, “Spector”.

Bob Snow of NHL.com returns to give us the Campus Buzz and discuss the latest news around the college hockey world. This week we’ll revisit the fading CHA and the latest rumor that has the remaining four CHA teams finding new homes in the WCHA and Atlantic Hockey as reported here in the Denver Post. We’ll also discuss the Inside Hockey Top Ten, compiled by Tim Rosenthal.

Julie Robenhymer of Hockey Buzz will join us this week to give her take on the Flyers and if they can regain the form that led them to the Eastern Conference Finals last season? Julie does a great job covering all things hockey and you can find her work here...

Former NHL enforcer Ken Belanger will be calling in this week and we’ll ask Ken what he thinks about disturbing phenomenon of headshots in the NHL. Is there is a way the league can minimize or rid the game of them all together without taking out the physicality of the game? We also discuss the best and worst General Managers in the NHL. In case our listeners are wondering what Ken does now, he has a great business that helps athletes relocate and you can find out more information here...
