Radio Show Preview: 10/18/08

October 17, 2008 @ 1:45 PM ET

Are you ready to GET INSIDE HOCKEY? Well then tune in this Saturday for the Inside Hockey Radio Show, 2-4 PM on “NHL Home Ice” XM 204 and Sirius 208, The Team 990 in Montreal, and 1120 AM WBNW in Boston. You can also listen online at www.team990.com or www.moneymattersradio.net. Join host James Murphy and his new co-host Todd Carroll as they take you inside the NHL, AHL, NCAA, CHL, and all things hockey!

Todd Carroll won’t be with us this week, as he and his new wife Amy are on their honeymoon. So before we tell you about this week’s lineup, we’d like to congratulate Todd and his new wife Amy on their marriage! Best of luck and health to the Carroll’s as they embark on their life together! I’d also like to congratulate my good friend Dave Ahola and his new wife Pria, who were married last week!

We’ve got a great show in line for you this week and we’re going to spend a lot of time in the press box to discuss a variety of NHL topics! Scott Burnside of ESPN.com will be joining us to discuss the Montreal Canadiens Centennial season and recap what was a memorable evening in Montreal this past Wednesday, when both he and Murph had the pleasure of covering the Habs season opener. Scott will also discuss the state of the Atlanta Thrashers and New York Islanders, two teams who can’t seem to figure out whether they’re playing for the present or building for the future.

We’ll stay up in the Press Box for the second segment as well, when we bring on old friend Judd Sirott. Judd is now the in-studio host Blackhawks radio broadcasts on AM 720 WGN. He also does some play-by-play for the NHL Network. We will get Judd’s take on the coaching change in Chicago as the Hawks replaced Denis Savard with Joel Quenneville only four games into the season. Many folks believe the timing of this move was off and in turn a slap in the face to one of the organization’s greatest stars. We’ll ask Judd about that, question how the move may effect the young core of the team and also whether having two starting goaltenders in Nikolai Khabibulin and Cristobal Huet may not be that bad after all?

Bob Snow of NHL.com will give us the Campus Buzz as we touch on the latest news around college hockey. We’ll discuss Shootouts in CCHA and progressive nature of Commissioner Tom Anastos, the Boston University-New Hampshire game Sunday, and Bob’s latest feature on Eagles Head coach Jerry York.

In our feature segment, we talk to Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mike Komisarek. Many, including Murph, picked the Habs to win the Eastern Conference and we’ll see how the Canadiens are handling the high expectations. We will also ask Mike about his contract negotiations and whether he thinks he will be back with the Habs next season?

The Golden Years is back with the show this week as hockey historian Mike Wyman features the Montreal Maroons and then joins us on the show to discuss.

Finally we’ll chat with Florida Panthers pro scout Billy O’Flaherty. Billy is one of the most respected amongst the scouting ranks and we’ll ask him about the Panthers and some other teams he has been watching closely this season.

So if you want to GET INSIDE HOCKEY, then tune in this and every Saturday to the Inside Hockey Radio Show, 2-4 PM on “NHL Home Ice” (XM 204), The Team 990 in Montreal, and 1120 AM WBNW in Boston. You can also listen online at www.team990.com or www.moneymattersradio.net.
