Radio Show Preview: 10/4/08

October 03, 2008 @ 8:21 PM ET

Are you ready to GET INSIDE HOCKEY? Well then tune in this Saturday as the Inside Hockey Radio Show returns to the airwaves 2-4 PM this Saturday on “NHL Home Ice” XM 204, The Team 990 in Montreal, and 1120 AM WBNW in Boston. You can also listen online at Team990.com or moneymattersradio.net. Join host James Murphy and his new co-host Todd Carroll as they take you inside the NHL, AHL, NCAA, CHL, and all things hockey! To chime in call 1-877-645-6696 or 1-877-NHL-6696, and email radio@insidehockey.com.

We’re very excited to be back on the air as “The Inside Hockey Radio Show” and be working with Inside Hockey Editor in Chief Kevin Greenstein. KG will actually be joining us in studio this week and we’ll discuss the new and exciting things going on with Inside Hockey such as the show and the soon-to-launch Insidehockey.tv. For more information, and to sign-up for our newsletter go to InsideHockey.com.

We’re also very excited to welcome Todd Carroll on as a co-host. Todd did some co-hosting with Murph last season and also did a segment called “Toe to Toe”, in which we tackled the hottest topics around the league with Todd’s signature boisterous rants! Toe to Toe will be back this season and this week Toddy is ready to give his take on the cold war between the Kontinental Hockey League and the NHL. If you have any suggestions on a topic of the week, you can reach us at radio@insidehockey.com.

The NHL gets underway on Saturday and Sunday as the Lightning and Rangers square off in Prague and the defending Eastern Conference Champion Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators meet in Stockholm for two games each.. We’ll take a look at those games and also the increasing presence of the NHL in Europe. Many believe we will eventually see the NHL expand to Europe. We’ll break down the reasons why and why not that may not occur as well as examine the presence of the Kontinental Hockey League and the present Cold War between them and the NHL.

As the season gets underway there are not too many goaltending controversies around the league. With the exception of Chicago, Colorado, Tampa Bay and Los Angeles, 26 teams seem to have their No. 1 slot solidified, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that will be the case come December. We’ll take a peak at the those situations as well as some current No.1 goalies who may be on the hot seat when we bring in our goaltending consultant, Brian Daccord of Stop it Goaltending. We’ll also ask Brian whether goalies can be captains in light of Roberto Luongo recently being named captain in Vancouver.

The NCAA Hockey season is right around the corner and we’ll bring in our NCAA hockey guru Bob Snow of NHL.com to discuss the upcoming season. We’ll go over Inside Hockey’s Top Ten, Bob’s Hobey Baker candidates, and some sleeper teams to keep an eye on.

We’ll also take a look at junior hockey as Patrick King of Rogers Sportsnet joins us. We’ll get Pat’s picks for the WHL, OHL and QMJHL, as well as how projected 2009 NHL Entry Draft top pick John Tavares is doing thus far.

Dave Schneider, lead singer of the Zambonis, the world’s only all-hockey rock band will check-in to tell us what’s going on the band and most likely reminisce about the Whalers, his favorite team, growing up in Connecticut. The Zambonis will be playing at the NHL Face-Off 2008 Fan Festival to celebrate start of 2008-09 season at the NHL Store powered by Reebok on Friday October 10. For more information go to target="_blank">NHL.com.

In the second hour we’ll chat with Louis Jean of Rogers Sportsnet. Louis will give us the latest on the Canadiens as they enter their Centennial Season picked by many to win the Eastern Conference and contend for the Stanley Cup. In addition to the Habs, Louis covers the NHL and he will give us the scoop on the latest trade rumors, including what may happen with Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin.

Hockey Night In Canada analyst and host of “The Stock Exchange” on Team 990, PJ Stock joins us this week to discuss the buzz around the Habs Centennial year and what it it’s like to be a on-air personality in Montreal. The Canadiens signed Georges Laraque this season, citing a need for toughness. With PJ being a former NHL enforcer, will get his take on that and the enforcer’s role in the NHL today.

Finally, Todd and Murph will give you their 2008-09 NHL season predictions. Can the Wings repeat? Are the Habs legit Stanley Cup contenders? How will the Penguins respond to losing some big free agents? Who will be the top rookies, who is due for a comeback year and who will win the Hart Trophy as league MVP?

So if you want to GET INSIDE HOCKEY, then tune in this and every Saturday to the Inside Hockey Radio Show, 2-4 PM on “NHL Home Ice” (XM 204), The Team 990 in Montreal, and 1120 AM WBNW in Boston.
