Mercyhurst Sweeps CHA Awards
Mercyhurst junior forward Meghan Agosta, senior goalie Laura Hosier, and freshman forward Jesse Scanzano have been awarded the offensive, defensive, and rookie player of the week awards. All three were instrumental in their team’s sweep of Niagara last weekend with Agosta netting a goal and assisting on two others in Saturday’s win. The goal on Saturday was shorthanded to give Mercyhurst a 2-1 lead, and she then assisted on the next two. She netted her second career hat trick on Sunday and finished the weekend with a +6 rating.
On Saturday, Hosier made 19 saves in Saturday’s 6-1 victory. The 18th shutout of her career came Sunday in making 28 stops. She helped Niagara go zero for 12 with the man advantage and had a 0.979 SAV % and 0.50 GAA.
Scanzano netted one goal on Sunday and assisted on five others, three of which came Saturday and two on Sunday. She finished the weekend with a +4 rating.
Vaillancourt, Waldie, and Grandmont-Berube are ECAC’s Best
Harvard junior forward Sarah Vaillancourt, Clarkson freshman forward Melissa Waldie her teammate freshman goalie Eve Grandmont-Berube are the ECAC’s player, rookie, and goalie of the week. Vaillancourt netted four goals, assisted on four others, and was +4 over the weekend for Harvard. On Tuesday, she netted one goal and one assist in the win over Dartmouth. She netted two other goals and one helper as Harvard beat Rensselaer 2-1 on Friday. On Sunday, Vaillancourt scored the game-winner and added two assists in Harvard’s 6-0 shutout of Union.
Waldie recorded a natural hat trick with two goals coming on the power play and was named the second star of the game, while Grandmont-Berube had 20 saves in Clarkson’s 6-0 victory over Yale Friday night. On Saturday, Waldie set up the game-winner and finished with four points on the weekend as Clarkson edged Brown 2-1, while Grandmont-Berube made 16 saves for her first NCAA sweep.
Waldie is now the top scorer on her team with 11 points. Grandmont-Berube had a 0.972 SAV % and 0.50 GAA this weekend and is now 7-3-2 this season.
Stack, Ruff, and Wilcox Win Hockey East Honors
For her five point effort against Connecticut this weekend, Boston College sophomore forward Kelli Stack is the Hockey East player of the week. One of her goals knotted the game with 36 seconds left in the final period in Thursday’s 2-2 tie. She netted two goals and assisted on two others as Boston College beat Connecticut 6-3 Saturday night.
Providence College freshman forward Alyse Ruff notched her first career hat trick in her team’s 7-2 thrashing of Maine Saturday night to give her the rookie of the week honors.
Boston University’s junior netminder Allyse Wilcox made 62 saves this past weekend with 21 of them coming against Vermont in the 3-0 win on Saturday night and 41 against New Hampshire in the 3-2 overtime loss on Saturday.
Marvin, Martin, and Gavrilova are WCHA’s Best
Minnesota junior forward Gigi Marvin, and UMD teammates, sophomore goalie Kim Martin and freshman forward Iya Gavrilova, are the WCHA’s offensive, defensive, and rookie players of the week. Marvin’s four points Friday night helped Minnesota shutout Bemidji State 5-0; the four points gave here 100 in her NCAA career (40 goals and 60 assists). Marvin had two goals on Friday on five shots, added two assists, and was +2.
Kim Martin had 63 stops this past weekend as UMD swept Wisconsin, and Gavrilova had three goals to up her scoring streak to four games. Eighteen of Martin’s stops came on Friday as she helped the Bulldogs hold the Badgers to no chances in five attempts with the man advantage. The victory was her ninth of the season and her second consecutive with 30 or more saves. She now has made 30 plus saves in four of her last six starts.
Iya Gavrilova netted the game-winner on Friday and two consecutive goals 45 seconds apart on Saturday, one of which was the game tying goal. She bagged the game-winner 15 seconds into the overtime for her second consecutive game winning goal; she also netted the game-winner on Friday as well.
Faber, Turgeon, and Herman are Tops in Hockey East
Hockey East honored New Hampshire junior forward Sam Faber, Maine junior goalie Genevieve Turgeon, and New Hampshire freshman netminder Kayley Herman as their best for the month of November. Faber had six goals, eight assists and a +10 rating over a nine game period last month as New Hampshire finished as the top team in the NCAA DI play. Three of her goals were game-winners (two which came in conference play versus Boston College and Vermont), and she scored at least one point in six of the nine games. On November 10th, she tied her career high of five points against Connecticut.
Turgeon went 0-4-1 with a 2.39 GAA, and 0.933 SAV % in November. Two of her starts came against nationally ranked teams. She made an average of 33 saves over the five game period making a total of 92 saves with two games over 30 plus saves. One of those games was a 49 save effort on November 2nd in an 0-2 loss to Clarkson. She also made 23 saves in the first scoreless tie in Hockey East history on November 24th against Vermont. She was twice named the defensive player of the week (November 5th and 26th).
Herman registered seven wins, one loss, and no ties with a 1.04 GAA, and 0.933 SAV % over nine November games (4-0-0, 1.00 GAA, 0.911 SAV % Hockey East play) which included one shutout on November 3rd at Vermont. Against nationally ranked teams, she went 4-0-0 with a 1.25 GAA and 0.924 SAV %. She stopped 41 of 43 shots as New Hampshire swept Wisconsin. Over those two games, Herman had a 1.01 GAA, and 0.953 SAV %.
New Hampshire Still Tops
With their two victories over Boston University and Northeastern this past weekend, the University of New Hampshire was voted the best in NCAA D1 hockey with 18 of 19 first place votes for the third week in a row.
With the lone remaining first place vote, Harvard University remained second as did the University of Minnesota Duluth at third, while St. Lawrence University moved from fourth to fifth and Minnesota went from seventh to round out the top five at fifth.

Games This Week
The lone non-conference game this past week saw Union make their way to Fairfield, CT and beat Sacred Heart 7-1.
Conference play began on Thursday as Boston College and Connecticut played to a 2-2 overtime tie at Storrs, CT in Hockey East.
The ECAC kicked off action on Friday as Harvard beat Rensselaer 5-2 in Troy, NY; Union was shutout by Dartmouth 2-0 at home; St. Lawrence went into Providence, RI and gave Brown a 6-2 beating; Clarkson shutout Yale 6-0 in New Haven, CT; Colgate lost 4-2 to Princeton at home; and Cornell edged visiting Quinnipiac 4-3.
In the WCHA,m Minnesota-Duluth beat Wisconsin 3-1 in Madison, WI; Minnesota shutout Bemidji State 5-0 at home; and North Dakota welcomed Minnesota State to Grand Forks with a 2-1 win.
Saturday’s CHA action featured one contest as Mercyhurst traveled to Niagara and came away with a 6-1 win.
ECAC weekend play concluded on Saturday as Quinnipiac and Colgate played to a 1-1 overtime tie in Hamilton, NY; Rensselaer lost 6-4 to Dartmouth at home; Harvard blanked Union 6-0 in Schenectady, NY; Yale was beaten 3-1 at home by St. Lawrence; Clarkson nipped Brown 2-1 in Providence; and Cornell welcomed Princeton by nipping them 3-2.
Hockey East weekend play began on Saturday as New Hampshire got by Boston University 3-2 in overtime at home; Providence welcomed Maine with a 7-2 blasting; Northeastern edged Vermont 2-1 in Boston, MA; and Boston College doubled Connecticut 6-3 also in Boston.
UMD swept Wisconsin with a 3-2 overtime win in Madison; Minnesota State gained a split in Grand Forks with a 5-1 victory over North Dakota; and Minnesota shutout Bemidji State for a second consecutive day with a 1-0 win in Mankato, MN to complete the WCHA weekend play.
Play wrapped up Sunday with four games as Mercyhurst completed their sweep of Niagara with a 5-0 shutout in CHA play; while the three Hockey East games were all shutouts as Providence and New Hampshire blanked Maine and Northeastern respectively by a 4-0 score, and Vermont closed out their visit to Boston with a 3-0 loss to Boston University.
The Leaders
Mercyhurst leads the CHA (4-0-0) and overall (12-2-2). In the CHA, after four games played, Mercyhurst sophomore forward Meghan Agosta is still tops among skaters with eight goals and four assists in four conference games, while her teammate, senior goalie Laura Hosier, is still the top netminder with her 3-0-0 record, 0.33 GAA, and 0.983 SAV %. She is also the overall leader as well with eight wins, two losses, and two ties, a GAA of 1.56 and 0.929 SAV %.
Wayne State junior forward Melissa Boal is once again the overall leader with 33 points (19G, 14A) in 13 games.
Harvard’s 9-0-0 conference and overall records puts them into first place in the ECAC.
Dartmouth sophomore forward Jenna Cunningham leads all ECAC skaters as she has eight goals and 13 assists in nine conference games played. Her 12 goals and 15 assists in 12 games overall also gives her the nod overall. In the net, Harvard sophomore Christina Kessler is tops as she is undefeated in conference play winning eight games, while losing and tying none. Her 1.00 GAA and 0.956 SAV % is also tops as well.
Clarkson freshman Lauren Dahm leads all netminders overall with her 5-1-0 record, 0.92 GAA, and 0.943 SAV %.
New Hampshire leads all Hockey East teams going undefeated in the conference (9-0-0) and with their 15-2-0 overall record.
New Hampshire junior forward Sam Faber leads all Hockey East conference and overall scorers as she has 18 conference (7G, 11A) points over nine games played and 25 points (11G, 14A) over 17 games.
Faber’s teammate freshman Kayley Herman tops all netminders conference-wise as she is 8-0-0 with an 0.99 GAA, and 1.000 SAV %. Like Faber, Herman also leads the overall statistics among goalies going 13-1-0 with a 1.02 GAA, and 0.937 SAV %.
With their 11-3-0 conference and 12-3-1 overall record, UMD tops all WCHA teams I the standings.
As Faber and Cunningham do in the ECAC and Hockey East respectively, Minnesota-Duluth sophomore forward Saara Tuominen is the WCHA points leader both in the conference (8G, 13A, 14GP) and overall (8G, 15A, 16GP).
Based on goals-against-average, Wisconsin junior netminder Jessie Vetter’s 6-4-1 record, 1.54 GAA, and 0.912 SAV % makes her the top conference netminder this week just as her record of nine wins, six losses, and one tie, GAA of 1.37, and 0.919 SAV % gives her the nod as the leader overall.

Non-Conference
In non-conference action on Thursday, Yale will travel to Providence.
On Friday, RIT makes their way to Moon Township, PA for a game versus Robert Morris, Colgate is at home to Niagara, Mercyhurst hosts New Hampshire, Maine is at St. Lawrence, and Harvard takes on Connecticut at home.
On Saturday, Mercyhurst completes their series with New Hampshire, while Niagara does the same with Colgate, RIT with Robert Morris and Maine at St. Lawrence.
Conference
Conference action resumes Thursday in a Hockey East affair in the Battle of Boston as Boston College travels to Chestnut Hill, MA to take on Boston University.
Friday’s ECAC action sees Quinnipiac at Rensselaer, and Princeton at Union.
The lone WCHA game has Minnesota making their way into Mankato, MN for an all Minnesota affair against Minnesota State.
Saturday’s ECAC action will feature Union hosting Quinnipiac, Rensselaer at home to Princeton, Niagara at Colgate, and Providence hosting Harvard at home.
In Hockey East, Boston College takes on another city rival as they host Northeastern in the lone conference game.
WCHA action will see two all-state rivalries as Bemidji takes on St. Cloud State in Bemidji, and Minnesota finishes up their visit to Mankato when they take on Minnesota State. In the two interstate games, North Dakota hosts Wisconsin, and Ohio State travels to Duluth to take on UMD at the DECC. All of those series will conclude on Sunday.
