The battle of Ontario is finally over as the Hamilton Bulldogs beat up on the Toronto Marlies 3-2 on Tuesday February 12th as Bulldogs and Marlies played each other for the 12th and final time this season.
In what was a physical affair, the Maries had four power plays in the first period and could not connect on any of them until a luckily break by Will Acton who opened the Marlies scoring late in the first period. The Marlies out shot the Bulldog 11-3 in the first period.
The second period was all Bulldogs as the Dogs out shot the Marlies 16-5 and finally beat Marlies goalie Rynnas with a Stefan Chaput goal on the power play. The Marlies did regain their lead with a power play goal by Joe Colborne at 16:02 however the Bulldogs tied it once again with an even strength goal by Mike Blunden at 17:30.
In the third period, the Bulldogs took their first lead of the game with just 2:46 remaining on a goal by Nathan Beaulieu who beat Rynnas on a long shot from the point that found the net.
The win by the Bulldogs was the second straight win against the Marlies and was a chance for the Bulldogs to salvage a 12 game season series that was dominated by the Marlies.
The Bulldogs never led until the final few minutes of the third period.
The Marlies were out shot 25-14 in the final two periods
The Marlies won the season series 7-5 in the Battle of Ontario
