A pretty good week last week as I went 6-3-1 in my 10 picks. And yes, Ohio State-Miami (Ohio) counts as a tie even though they went to a shootout (that Ohio State won) because it counts as a tie in the NCAA standings, but not for the CCHA standings.
Let's take a look at last week's results (Last weeks iH top 10 is also in there beside the appropriate team):
Friday
#1 Boston College 5
#10 Wisconsin 4
(win)
#2 Michigan 4
St. Lawrence 3
(win)
Michigan State 3
Massachusetts 1
(win)
OSU 3
Miami 3
(tie)
#10 Boston University 5
#4 North Dakota 1
(loss)
Saturday
Vermont 4
Rensselaer 1
(win)
#10 Boston University 2
Michigan State 1
(win)
#7 Denver 5
#3 Notre Dame 2
(win)
#6 New Hampshire 5
#10 Wisconsin 1
(loss)
Massachusetts 3
#4 North Dakota 2
(loss)
Overall a good week, with both days resulting in a winning record.
Now here are my picks for this week's big games for the weekend of October 17.
Friday, October 17
#2 Michigan 5, Northern Michigan 2
The Wolverines might of looked a little shaky against St. Lawrence, but it won't happen again this week. Expect a sweep at Northern Michigan.
Michigan State 4, UMass-Lowell 1
The offense should get some shots, and Jeff Lerg should be Jeff Lerg in net. Spartans win this one, and they'll win Thursday night as well.
North Dakota 4, Minnesota State 2
UND will at least take one this weekend, mark my words. They will not start 0-4.
Vermont 3, #7 Miami (Ohio) 2
The Cats take the first game in Burlington.
#10 St. Cloud State 5, #9 Minnesota 3
The two will meet in St. Cloud before traveling to the Xcel Energy Center Saturday night. I see a split in this series as well.
Saturday, October 18
Providence 3, Bowling Green 2
The Friars get the victory in a CCHA-Hockey East battle.
Weekend Sweep
Vermont 2, #7 Miami 1
Should be a tight contest both days, but I like Vermont at home. The Cats will be 3-0 going into their showdown at Conte Fourm with Boston College.
#3 Denver 4, Wisconsin 2
The Pioneers will take this one, not sure about the first game though. A toss up series nonetheless.
Upset Special
Northeastern 2, #1 Boston College 1
Matthews Arena will be rocking for the first home game of the year. Expect the crowd to play a difference in this one.
Game of the Week Sunday, October 19
#4 Boston University 4, #5 New Hampshire 3
Even on the road, the Terriers will pull this one out, and go to 4-0 (after defeating Merrimack Friday). Should be a great game when Colin Wilson of BU and James vanRiemsdyk of UNH step on the Olympic Size Ice at the Whittemore Center.
