The Hershey Bears announced in conjunction with the American Hockey League that they will hold the 2013 Capital Blue Cross Outdoor Classic, next January at Hersheypark Stadium. The game is set for January 20th, when the Bears will face off against their division rivals, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.
The announcement was made before Hershey’s Saturday night game against the Charlotte Checkers. The event is recognized as the 2013 Capital Blue Cross American Hockey League Outdoor Classic. General Manager Doug Yingst was honored that Hershey will be a part of this great event:
“In 30 years of my involvement with the Hershey Bears Hockey Club and the Hershey community, I’ve had no greater pride than I have now in bringing an American Hockey League outdoor game right here to Hershey next season.”
American Hockey League president and CEO, David Andrews addressed the crowd at Giant Center during the special announcement.
“This is a deserving honor for the community of Hershey as you celebrate a milestone season,” Andrews said. “Congratulations in hosting what promises to be a wonderful experience in January, and we’ll see you there.”
Tickets will be made first available to Bears’ season ticket holders on June 18th at 10 a.m. in what is sure to be the hottest ticket in town. More tickets will be available to the public at a later date following the sale to Hershey season ticket holders.
This will be the second year in a row the Bears’ play outdoors, after facing the Adirondack Phantoms in the 2012 outdoor classic at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
