The Hershey Bears continued to add the finishing touches for the 2012-2013 season, signing defenseman Scott Wietecha to a one-year AHL-only contract. The deal was confirmed to Inside Hockey by his agent, Scott Norton. Wietecha, a 24 year old defenseman and Ferris State alum will provide solid depth on Hershey’s blueline along with a right hand shot that will be helpful in five on five play.
Wietecha played a full four years at Ferris State University, tallying 12 goals and 39 assists on the blue line in 126 career games. Following the 2010-2011 season with Ferris State, Wietecha played six games for the Elmira Jackets of the ECHL registering nine shots on goal and four penalty minutes. He began the 2011-2012 campaign with the Chicago Express of the ECHL and his performanced highly increased. Wietecha registered 14 goals and 13 assists for the Express, also recording 69 penalty minutes along with a solid plus two on the ice.
With all the additions this offseason, General Manager Doug Yingst is likely done with adding players on AHL deals. Graham Mink is a possible returnee and would bring strong verteran leadership.
