The Rochester Americans have cooled off the Hamilton Bulldogs with a 2-0 win on Presidents Day. Losers of two straight, the Amerks came into Hamilton to face the surging Bulldogs and came away with the win in front of a large crowd at Copps Coliseum.
“We knew the Bulldogs having been playing really well, and we just had to play our A-game and I thought we did a really good job,” said Amerks goalkeeper David Leggio who stopped 30 shots in the win.
This season, the Amerks have just dominated the Bulldogs winning 7 of 8. On Presidents Day the Amerks out shot the Bulldogs 49-30. However during the final three minutes, the Bulldogs uncharacteristically pulled their goalie with just over two and a half minutes to go, with six attackes on the ice, the Bulldogs sent a flurry of shots a Leggio who stopped them all.
“During the game I was just trying to keep myself in the game and keep myself focused, and then at the end there was a lot of shots, and I really didn’t have to think about anything, I was just in the moment,” Leggio said.
With the win, the Amerks pick up two points and move into seventh place in the very tough Western Conference.
“We just have to keep playing our way, keep playing our system, keeping the third man high and covering for deep and also playing an aggressive game as well,” Leggio said of the upcoming matchup on Wednesday night against the league leading Texas Stars.
Brayden McNabb and Luke Adam scored the goals for the Americans.
