AHL Power Rankings: 11/13/12

The AHL season is hitting its stride, and some young and talented teams that have taken control at the top of the standings. The Springfield Falcons and the Charlotte Checkers currently lead the Eastern and Western Conference standings, respectively, with a few teams trailing close behind. Perhaps the biggest disappointment this season has been the Albany Devils, minor league affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, who have managed to only record nine points through 11 games this season. The Peoria Rivermen hold the last position in the Western Conference standings, with only seven points through 12 games.

The defending Calder Cup champions Norfolk Admirals are currently placed fifth in the Eastern Conference standings, but a solid weekend could place them back at the top. Lake Erie and Grand Rapids are placed second and third in the Western Conference respectively, a surprise to many. Adirondack and Providence have struggled in the early part of the season, placed 13th and 14th in the Eastern Conference. Standings are current to tonight’s games.
